CALL FOR STORY PROPOSALS

About the Guild    

The Uganda Editors’ Guild is an association of the country’s senior editors and media scholars formed to foster professional and viable media that effectively advances a democratic society by promoting media freedom, credibility and professionalism.  At its core, the philosophy behind the Uganda Editors’ Guild is that editors must lead from the front in pursuing media freedom and professionalism.

Formed in April 2019, and incorporated in Uganda on March 17, 2020, the Uganda Editor’s Guild was officially inaugurated on World Press Freedom Day on May 3, 2021, in Kampala, Uganda.  By the end of 2021 the Guild had 65 subscribing editors from all over the country as well as associated supporters/members in the form of journalism training schools and associations working in the area of media freedom, journalism safety and freedom of expression.

The Guild has received funding from Twaweza East Africa to support journalists in Uganda to produce and publish/broadcast compelling features and analytical pieces on climate change, taxation, Gender Based Violence. Twaweza East Africa, a Non-Governmental Organisation, works at enabling citizens to exercise agency and governments to be more open and responsive in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

 COMPOSITION OF STORY PROPOSAL

  • A brief synopsis of no more than five paragraphs on story idea
  • Short explanation on why proposed idea is important
  • A letter from the commissioning editor
  • A budget to execute proposed story idea
  • A brief bio of the journalist/applicant
  • Application should be in Word for PDF format

SUBMISSION

Proposals should be submitted by email to info@ugandaeditorsguild.org not later than 5p.m. on Friday 9th December 2022.
